Sokolas Headshot
Mr. Michael Sokolas

       Mr. Michael Sokolas began his career with Cumberland Valley School District in October of 2018 when he assumed his current role as Director of Student and Public Safety. Prior to joining Cumberland Valley, he was employed by Geisinger Health as the Security Manager for Holy Spirit Hospital and its affiliated physician offices and clinics across south-central Pennsylvania. Mr. Sokolas has also provided security leadership to various entertainment complexes and private organizations throughout Northeast Pennsylvania.

       Mr. Sokolas is graduate of Marywood University, holding a dual Bachelors of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology. In 2016, Mr. Sokolas went on to obtain a Master of Science Degree in Human Resource Management from the University of Scranton. In 2021, Mr. Sokolas completed his MBA studies at the University of Tennessee - Martin and is currently studying for his Doctorate in Public Administration through West Chester University. Mr. Sokolas also has professional training certificates from the Department of Homeland Security’s Center for Domestic Preparedness, the Y-12 National Security Complex, the ALICE Training Institute, and the National Association of School Resource Officers.

Mr. Timothy Froelich

        Mr. Timothy Froelich began his career with the Cumberland Valley School District in April of 2019 when he assumed his current role as Assistant Director of Student and Public Safety. Mr. Froelich came to Cumberland Valley with an extensive background in security and emergency management operations. Mr. Froelich also brings nearly 20 years of business management and operations experience to his role.

        Mr. Froelich attended Kutztown University in the 1990’s where he studied Psychology. Professionally, Mr. Froelich has received training certificates from the ALICE Training Institute, the National Association of School Resource Officers, the Y-12 National Security Complex as well as various certificates from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Mr. Froelich prides himself on his ability to connect with students, having served 26 years as a varsity high school football coach throughout the mid-state.

Sergeant Chad Shifflet (Badge 85-03)

       Sergeant Chad Shifflet has dedicated his life to serving his country and community. A 24 year veteran of the United States Air Force, retiring at the rank of Sergeant, Sgt. Shifflet has also served his community as a Police Officer for Shiremanstown Borough, and a Police Officer and School Resource Officer for Silver Spring Township. Sgt. Shifflet began his career with Cumberland Valley in 2019 when hired to serve as a Security Officer. Shortly after his arrival, he transitioned to be the School Resource Officer for Silver Spring Township assigned to Cumberland Valley High School. In 2021, Sgt. Shifflet became the first ever sworn member of the Cumberland Valley School District Police Department and was later named the first ever Sergeant of the department in 2023. A district resident, with two children in the district, Sgt. Shifflet prides himself on working each and every day to ensure a safe learning environment for our students, faculty, and staff.
