Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education

Dr. Blanchard

A native of Iowa, Dr. Blanchard moved to central Pennsylvania in 1997 to begin his teaching career as a high school English teacher, first at West Shore Christian Academy and then Central Dauphin High School.  In 2005, his time as an administrator began as an assistant principal at Cumberland Valley High School followed by nine years as the principal of Gettysburg Area High School.  Dr. Blanchard returned to CV in 2017 as the high school’s executive director before assuming the role of assistant superintendent in 2020. 

After finishing his undergraduate work at Clarks Summit University, Dr. Blanchard completed his Master’s degree and principal certification program at Penn State University and his superintendent certification at Shippensburg University. In 2019, Dr. Blanchard finished his doctoral work in the area of education policy at George Washington University.  In addition to his work at CV, he currently works with Shippensburg University’s Department of Education Leadership. 

In the role of assistant superintendent, Dr. Blanchard is responsible for maintaining and enhancing academic excellence through planning, organizing, coordinating, evaluating and directing all aspects of curriculum, instruction, and assessment at the secondary level.  He finds it extremely rewarding to work with CVSD students, staff and administration on these critical components of the educational program. He believes his ultimate mission is to provide all students with opportunity and the support they need in order to be successful.
