🔍 LEARNING THROUGH DISCOVERY: All 5th graders across the district recently dove into hands-on science with the amazing team at Stroud Water Research Center.

Students explored freshwater ecosystems, examined aquatic creatures up close using magnifying glasses & microscopes 🔬, and identified them using macroinvertebrate sorting sheets. It was an exciting, interactive way to discover how these tiny critters help scientists understand water quality! 💧🐛

Huge thanks to Stroud for making science come alive!

🌺 CREATIVITY TAKES ROOT: In Mrs. Cole's 8th-grade Discovering Agriculture class at Mountain View Middle School, students recently explored the world of floral design, where creativity meets science and business.

They learned how professionals in the floral industry use marketing to build their brands, then brought their knowledge to life by crafting 3D models of flowers they researched.

Through this engaging project, students learned how flowers grow, color variations, and bloom times. A perfect blend of research, creativity, and real-world skills. 🌿

🌎 HISTORY BROUGHT TO LIFE: We were honored to welcome Dr. Edda Fields-Black 🏆, 2025 Pulitzer Prize-winning author, historian, and descendant of a freedom fighter in the Combahee River Raid, to speak with CVHS students in AP African American Studies, AP U.S. History, and History & Literature of Black Civil Rights classes. 📚

Dr. Fields-Black shared a powerful, lesser-known side of Harriet Tubman’s legacy as a military leader who helped lead a daring Civil War raid that freed over 750 enslaved people in South Carolina.

📜 Through rare historical documents and personal family stories, she offered students a deeply personal and human view of the raid’s impact, showing how the freed individuals helped shape the rich legacy of Gullah Geechee culture.

🎉 A YEAR OF GROWTH AND TEAMWORK BEGINS: Last Friday, Winding Creek Elementary School kicked off a new year of House celebrations!

⭐️ Kindergarteners met their House leaders and enjoyed fun, interactive activities that fostered friendships and a sense of belonging.

⭐️ Grades 1–5 gathered for the first House assembly, where new students opened sealed envelopes to reveal their House: Care, Inspire, Wonder, or Innovate. The room lit up with cheers, high-fives, and warm welcomes from their new Housemates!

Dr. Runkle explained how students can earn points throughout the year by demonstrating kindness, leadership, respect, perseverance, and through their academic achievements, from class projects to personal growth.

The assembly served as a strong reminder that every action, big or small, contributes to creating a welcoming and supportive culture for all students. 🫶

🏈 HONORING COACH TIM RIMPFEL: Last Friday, we proudly dedicated the athletic wing of the DSF to the late Coach Tim Rimpfel — now called the Rimpfel Athletic Center.

Surrounded by his wife Liz, daughters Callie and Katie, and a community of former players, coaches, and friends, we celebrated a man whose legacy goes far beyond football.

Coach Rimpfel earned 307 wins, nine District III titles, and a 1992 state championship, but he’s remembered most for the relationships he built. He led with humility, kindness, and loyalty, shaping lives on and off the field.

The Rimpfel Athletic Center will serve as a lasting reminder of the love, leadership, and legacy Coach Rimpfel left behind. 🦅❤

Paired up with their buddy classes, students journeyed through the stars together, learning about constellations, stellar nurseries, and how each one of us shines in our own way.

With the theme “A Galaxy Together,” students reflected on their hopes, dreams, and goals for the year, adding their own sparkle to Shaull's school-wide display.

☀ A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE CV NEIGHBORHOOD: What an incredible way to launch the 2025–2026 school year at today’s Convocation! Our theme — #WonderTogether and #ConnectedNeighbors — came to life through a heartwarming and unforgettable Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood skit performed by our talented District Admin team. ✨

We proudly welcomed our new staff members and were deeply inspired by powerful messages from School Board President Greg Rausch and CVEA President Mario de La Barrera. Eric Blocher, President of The Eagle Foundation, highlighted the Foundation’s ongoing impact and reminded us of the strength and generosity within our community. 🫶

Our keynote speakers, authors Gregg Behr and Ryan Rydzewski, captivated us with insights from their book When You Wonder, You’re Learning, beautifully tying Mister Rogers’ timeless lessons to the importance of curiosity, kindness, and connection in helping students thrive. 📚

Special congratulations to the six outstanding individuals honored with Portrait of an Eagle coins for their unwavering commitment and passion for the CV community. Your dedication continues to inspire us all. 🙌

We're energized and ready for an amazing year filled with connection, inspiration, and soaring success! 🦅
