🖨️ LETTER BY LETTER: Ms. Long’s fifth graders at Green Ridge Elementary School became printing pioneers last week!

They arranged movable type to craft their very own sentences—just like early printers did hundreds of years ago. Talk about learning by doing! One letter at a time, they got a firsthand look at how the printing press changed the world.

🌟 INSPIRING HEARTS AND MINDS: Last Friday, we kicked off our PD Day with Ben Hartranft—a true inspiration! 💙 Diagnosed with Autism at two years old and speaking just 20 words, Ben has overcome every obstacle with faith and determination.

From fundraising for the Eagles Autism Challenge 🏈 to appearing on The Ellen Show, he now travels the country spreading a simple but powerful message: kindness, inclusion, and the power of one person to make a difference.

Thank you, Ben, for reminding us all to Be the One! 🫶

🌊 WAVES OF CONFIDENCE: Last summer, CVHS junior Sofie Nguyen saw an opportunity to make a difference.

After learning that a local Special Olympics youth swimming program was no longer available, Sofie partnered with the CV Swim/Dive team captains’ leadership group to host a trial Special Olympics-style swim event for CVHS students.

🏊 Twenty-five Swim/Dive team members volunteered, working alongside their peers to practice freestyle and backstroke basics, streamline and push-offs, kicking skills, water safety, and water games before a friendly competition.

The day brought our Portrait of an Eagle competencies to life as students practiced communication, built confidence, showed empathy, solved problems, and supported one another. 🦅

Most importantly, it created meaningful memories in the water. ❤️

🚚 CURBSIDE CREATIVITY: Last month, CVHS students in Mrs. Nowicki-McVitty’s Culinary Foundations I class brought their culinary dreams to life during an exciting Food Truck competition. 🍕

Students designed their own food truck concepts, created menus, set prices, and prepared dishes for judging. Throughout the process, they applied important POE skills such as communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, and confidence. They collaborated with teammates, worked through challenges, and made thoughtful decisions to turn their ideas into reality. 👨‍🍳

The experience strengthened their skills in and out of the kitchen and showed that with creativity, teamwork, and confidence, big ideas can lead to delicious success!

⛏️ DIGGING INTO DISCOVERY: Green Ridge Elementary School 4th graders had an unforgettable hands-on geology experience with special guest Mr. Don Hubbell, proud dad of Mrs. Jan and member of the local geological society.

As part of their CKLA study of Earth’s natural processes and the rock cycle, students explored real rocks, minerals, and fossils, examined authentic geologist tools, and handled fascinating specimens from Mr. Hubbell’s personal collection. Curiosity was high, and excitement was crystal clear.

The highlight? Each student received a geode, personally cut by Mr. Hubbell, to take home as a hidden treasure from inside the Earth.

Now that’s what we call rock-solid learning! 🪨

Every dollar goes toward free sports, health, and leadership programs for over 15,000 Special Olympics athletes across Pennsylvania. Athletes in Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Juniata, Lancaster, Lebanon, Mifflin, Perry, and York Counties will directly benefit from their efforts.

We are #CVProud of the Freezin’ Eagles for their courage, heart, and commitment to making a real impact in our community. ❤ 🦅
