Attendance Information & Resources

At Cumberland Valley School District, we believe that regular school attendance is essential for academic success and overall student growth. Consistent attendance helps students build a strong foundation in their learning, develop positive relationships with peers and staff, and establish routines that support lifelong success. When students are present and engaged in the classroom, they are more likely to stay on track academically, participate in valuable learning experiences, and achieve their full potential.

We recognize that occasional absences may be unavoidable; however, minimizing missed days and ensuring prompt communication with the school are key components of student success. Our goal is to work in partnership with families to support daily attendance and to address any challenges that may impact a student's ability to attend school regularly. Together, we can create a supportive environment where every student can thrive.

If your child isn't feeling their best but is still able to participate in their school day, we encourage them to attend. Every Cumberland Valley school building is staffed with a dedicated and compassionate school nurse, ready to assist students with health needs throughout the day. With this support in place, we’re committed to ensuring your child feels safe, cared for, and ready to learn each day.

General Attendance Procedures:

  • Students who are absent from school are required to submit an excuse within three (3) school days of their return. Parents/guardians are encouraged to report absences in advance through the Skyward Family Access Portal, where excuse notes can also be uploaded directly.

  • After a student accumulates ten (10) total absences, any additional absences must be verified with documentation from a licensed healthcare provider, a District-approved form, or by a school nurse or administrator.

  • Attendance letters are accessible in Skyward under the Portfolio tile. Upon a student's fourth (4) unlawful absence, building administration will contact the family to schedule a Student Attendance Improvement Conference (SAIC) to address attendance concerns.

  • Continued unlawful absences beyond six (6) may result in further action, including involvement from the District Attendance Officer, Children & Youth Services, and/or a Magisterial District Judge.
