Cam Lorei a junior Student Ambassador at Cumberland Valley High School spent a recent club meeting decorating holiday cookies while strengthening connections within their group and with the students they serve. The activity was both a fun break from routine meetings and a reminder of the club’s larger mission of welcoming new students and helping them feel comfortable at CV.

“The main role of a student ambassador is to act as the official representative and role model for CV for new students,” said student ambassador Cam Lorei. “We serve as the connection between the expectations of our administration and the personability of the student body.”

Lorei explained that the club focuses on helping students adjust through both planning and social interaction. “We participate in two main types of activities: logistical duties and social outreach,” Lorei said. “Socially, we host events and mixers where new students can meet each other and easily connect with us, the ambassadors.”

The holiday cookie decorating event was created with that goal in mind. “The whole point was to find a really fun way to bring students together and have them relax,” Lorei said. “It was a comfortable competition that let them express themselves without any pressure.”

In addition to helping others feel welcome, the event also brought the ambassadors closer together. “Since we were all working side by side on the prep and then running the different tables during the event, it let us practice teamwork in a really fun, low-stakes way,” Lorei said. “It was a nice reminder that we’re a supportive team with a common goal.”
