For the 15th year, volunteers and kids gathered at Roof Park for a five-week event celebrating community, activity, and friendly competition.

The New Cumberland Healthy Kids Running Series kicked off at Roof Park September 21, offering races for children from toddlers to high schoolers. Now in its 15th year, the event encouraged fitness with races ranging from a 50-yard dash to a two-mile run, plus themed weeks like “Crazy Socks.”

Cumberland Valley’s Key Club volunteered at the series, setting up the runs, cheering on participants, and keeping the events organized.

Junior Janae Shelly, a Key Club member said, “It was really fun to see the little kids out there giving it their all, even the two-year-olds in the 50-yard dash were so determined, and you couldn’t help but smile.”

At the end of the program on October 19, trophies will be awarded to the top boy and girl in each division, rewarding not only speed but also dedication across the five weeks.

“Key Club’s mission is to serve others, and this was a perfect example,” Shelly said. “Our students got to encourage younger kids to stay active while also learning how much of an impact they could make.”

With family support, student volunteers, and plenty of enthusiasm from participants, the New Cumberland Healthy Kids Running Series proved successful once again.
