ZORO
Zoro is a single-purpose weapons detection K9 specifically trained to detect the presence of firearms. Zoro has been trained to work in a K-12 environment by the School Safety K9 Foundation, a 501(C)(3) organization whose mission is to prevent violence in US schools by introducing scentdetection K-9s utilzing passive, non-intrusive screening methods to detect hidden firearms.
CVPD is the first agency in the entire nation to be awarded a K-9, at no cost, through this innovative program.
Zoro, a German Shorthair Pointer, arrived to CV in August 2024 after several months of intensive training in Anniston, Alabama. CVPD Officer Corey Shoemaker cares for Zoro and serves as his handler.
