Athletic Training Student Internship
Cumberland Valley School District
Athletic Training Student Program
Overview of the Program
The role of a Certified Athletic Trainer is to manage and provide care for injuries to the physically active population while under the direction of a licensed physician. This includes rendering emergency care, development of injury prevention programs, and providing appropriate preventative techniques and/or devices for the physically active population. This also includes assessment, management, treatment, rehabilitation and reconditioning of injuries sustained by the physically active population.
In becoming a student aide, you are becoming a member of a team. This team consists of the school administrators, the school physician, the certified athletic trainers (ATCs), other student aides, coaches, parents, and athletes. Becoming a member of this team means that you will contribute to the success of Cumberland Valley School District’s athletic programs. You must understand that each member of this team has a specific role, which must be carried out to the best of that individual’s ability in order to create a successful athletic program.
Knowledge, skills and dependability will be factors in determining the level of responsibility the student aide will be given. Your initial experience in the athletic training room will consist of learning the operations and procedures of the athletic training room. You will spend a majority of your time observing the certified athletic trainers and other student aides in order to learn proper skills in caring for Cumberland Valley School District’s athletic population. As you become more knowledgeable and comfortable with the basic principles of athletic training and more proficient in your skills, your responsibilities and duties will be increased accordingly.
The Athletic Training Internship is to help those that want to pursue the medial field in the future. Because of the number of applications we receive, we are only selective to those that are truly interested in a medical profession
