Career Activities (Chapter 339)

  • In Pennsylvania, Chapter 339 artifacts are tangible products (like career plans, project rubrics, interview notes, budgets, or portfolios) that K-12 students create to demonstrate mastery of Pennsylvania's Career Education and Work (CEW) Standards, proving they're ready for college and careers as mandated by Title 22 Chapter 339 regulations for comprehensive guidance programs.

  • These artifacts, collected throughout a student's K-12 journey, show skills in career awareness, acquisition, retention, and entrepreneurship.

  • Students must accumulate eight (8) artifacts in grades 9-11.

  • Artifacts, such as career interest surveys and participation in STEM activities, will be documented in Naviance with the assistance of school counselors.

Act 158 Requirements

Act 158 of 2018 and Act 6 of 2017 provide alternatives to Pennsylvania’s statewide requirement of attaining proficiency on the three end-of-course Keystone Exams (Algebra I, Literature, and Biology). All Pennsylvania students earning a diploma must meet the requirements of one of the five pathways that demonstrate their college, career, and community readiness.

There are five pathways that students can use to fulfil that Act 158 criteria.   Each pathway demands a significant amount of action, and each one is able to be tailored to the student's interests and future goals. Two of the Pathways are related to Keystone testing, and three of the pathways focus on student's strengths in other areas.

Every CV student must take a Keystone exam in Biology, Algebra I, and Literature 10 at the end of each of those respective courses or by the spring of their 11th grade year (this includes students who never take Biology, Algebra I, or Literature 10).

Students who do not meet the Act 158 criteria by the end of their junior year (using a Keystone-related Pathway) will need to supply their counselor with the artifacts needed for one of the Alternate Pathways during their senior year. Use the links to the left to learn more about each pathway.
