Help Us Raise Money for Veterans

If you would like to give online to help us raise funds for Dog Tags, Mr. Seylar has set up a Go Fund Me page:  https://www.gofundme.com/f/sporting-hill-elementary-serves-veterans

This year our Veterans Day Celebration centers around the idea of “serving” or “service”.  As part of this theme, we want our students to experience what it means to serve someone. Therefore, we have partnered with Dog T.A.G.S (Train. Assist. Guide. Serve.)  Dog T.A.G.S serves veterans in Mechanicsburg and Lehigh Valley. Their mission is “To train, assist, guide and serve veterans who have been diagnosed by a licensed mental healthcare provider with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and/or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) through the operation of a Service Dog Program.” More information can be found on their website: https://www.dogtagsprogram.org/.

So what is our Sporting Hill community going to do to help?  We are going to raise money to donate to this amazing organization.  Dog T.A.G.S. is a volunteer organization; they give their time and experience free of charge.  By giving money, Sporting Hill will help provide for the needs and costs of veterans in this program. We have a schoolwide goal of raising $1000 to help support a beginning Veteran and his/her dog. Throughout the year, we will receive updates and be able to see how our donations help serve others.

We are encouraging students to find ways that they may contribute to this service project. Perhaps they may perform chores at home. If your family would like to participate in this service project, please send in donations by November 8, 2019.  Donations should be in an envelope/baggie clearly labeled “Dog T.A.G.S” so that it may be collected in the office. Checks may be made out to Sporting Hill PTO. We will present a check to a representative from Dog T.A.G.S. as part of our assembly

Finally, if you are planning to attend our Veteran’s Day Celebration at 2:15 on November 11, you will need to check-in at the office to receive a badge. If you are already a part of the Guardian Gate system, please fill out this link so that we can print your badge prior to the assembly https://forms.gle/DLGfL7FQwmDhCgZdA.
