Please note: Following is the text of an automated telephone call that will be sent to Cumberland Valley High School families.

Dear CV High School families:

(11/13/18) - I am calling you today with an update to the phone message you received from me on Monday evening regarding the handwritten message found on a bathroom stall at CV High school that indicated the possibility of a threat. While the investigation has continued, we have not yet been able to identify the individual responsible for writing this message. However, neither administration nor police have received any information to substantiate the threat.

You may click here to read the letter from the Superintendent that was sent on Monday, November 12, 2018, upon discovery of the message.

As an added measure of protection, we are working with our Director of Student and Public Safety to assure additional security will be present in and around the high school at this evening’s events and during the school day tomorrow, Wednesday, November 14. Our School Resource Officer – a police officer with Silver Spring Township – continues to be available for our students and staff.

I both understand and respect that this phone call may cause your family some anxiety. While we have no information to substantiate the threat, I know that each of you must make a personal decision that is best for your family in regards to sending your child to school. Absences in such circumstances will be handled in accordance with district policy and the student handbook. Examples of excused absences include but are not limited to illness, family emergencies, and medical appointments.

I again ask parents and students to remain vigilant and to immediately report any activity that may be considered concerning. I also ask that you please remain assured that any student found responsible for making threats of violence will face consequences as allowable by both district policy and law.

I sincerely appreciate your support.

Sincerely,

Frederick S. Withum III, Ed.D.
Superintendent
