Dear Green Ridge Families,

We are honored to take this opportunity to share that the School Board has approved District administration's recommendation to name Mrs. Maria Miller as the principal of Green Ridge Elementary School. She previously served in the Lower Dauphin School District as a middle school assistant principal.
Mrs. Miller replaces Mrs. Amy Lena, who recently announced her retirement.

Mrs. Miller offers a welcome letter below. Please help us in welcoming Mrs. Miller to the Green Ridge Gator family!

Sincerely,
Patty Hillery, Ed.D.
Assistant Superintendent

Letter from Mrs. Miller to Green Ridge families:

Hello Green Ridge Families,

I am so excited to join the Green Ridge Elementary community! I have heard nothing but wonderful things about the school, the students, and the families of Green Ridge. I was so impressed to learn about how involved the families are in the school and look forward to being a part of those events. Most of all, I am honored to be able to work with your children and foster an educational environment that allows them to each grow as a whole child and feel empowered by education.

I am originally from Oswego, New York - a small town located on Lake Ontario. After I graduated from high school, I attended St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia as an elementary education major. I got my first job at a middle school in New Jersey teaching English. Once I met my husband, I relocated to Central Pennsylvania and did a year-long master’s program in Curriculum and Instruction at Shippensburg University. I was hired at Halifax Middle School as an English teacher and pretty soon after began the principal’s certificate program at Penn State. After five years at Halifax, I was hired as the Assistant Principal at Lower Dauphin Middle School. And now, a little over four years later, I am so proud to say I am the Green Ridge Elementary Principal!

When I first entered the world of education, I was moved by the role schools play in a child’s life. As I continued on my journey, I learned about what we can do as educators to ensure our students are equipped with the tools to be successful. I am so pleased to have a part in such a developmental time in your child’s life and will work to promote a positive and productive educational environment.

My goals for the first few months of school are to learn as much as I can about the school, the students, and the community and to continue to support the wonderful things that are already in place at Green Ridge. I plan on meeting many families and community members and being as visible and accessible as I can. Thank you for your support and all that you do for the students at Green Ridge. I can already tell it is a very special place, which is a reflection of the community that surrounds it.

I look forward to meeting all of you!

Go Gators!
