INFORMATION FROM OUR SCHOOL NURSE, MRS. COBURN

It is time for "Team Hampden" to work together to keep our community healthy.  These guidelines can help you determine if you should keep your child at home or send them to school.

If your child has ANY of the following symptoms, please keep your child at home:

Fever above 100 degrees Fahrenheit – A child should be fever free, without the use of any medications, for twenty-four hours before returning to school.

Vomiting – A child who has been ill during the night may feel better in the morning and even ask to go to school.  However, the child will likely experience symptoms of illness later, will also be tired from loss of sleep, and may still be contagious to other children.  A child MUST be able to tolerate eating and drinking while at school.

Diarrhea

• New, undiagnosed rash

• Red or pink eyes and/or thick white, yellow or green drainage in eyes.

• Symptoms of illness such as unusual fatigue, generalized aching, headache, uncontrolled coughing, severe sore throat or difficulty breathing.  These symptoms more severe than that of a common cold and are considered flu-like symptoms

• Students experiencing a contagious condition such as strep throat or conjunctivitis need to be on antibiotics for at least twenty-four hours or judged non-infectious with a note from their physician before returning to school.

• Students may return to school only after being treated for lice and combed through with the removal of nits. Before a child returns to school they MUST be with a parent for a clearance head check.

Reminder: Hand washing is a key component to our success! Talk to your children about washing their hands with soap and water and rubbing after using the bathroom, coughing and/or sneezing.

In the best interest of all of our students, thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.
