Hello Middlesex Families,

As we continue to work as a building and community on growth mindset, it is important for students to understand that the brain is a muscle and it can grow and become stronger. The mindsetworks website provides many resources that will continue to support us as educators! See the below article from the site that explains in more detail the importance of the brain.

Talk About the Brain

The brain is far more malleable than we once thought. Teaching our kids that they actually have control over growing their brains through the actions they take is empowering! Tell your children that when they work hard, that’s the feeling of their neurons connecting. The dendrites are reaching out to other dendrites, trying to connect to make a stronger brain. What strengthens those connections is practice, asking questions, and actively participating in learning. When children learn that their brains physically change with effort, it leads to increased motivation and achievement. Click here for a kid-friendly video explaining how the brain works.

Winter Learning Challenge:
Over the Christmas Holiday Break students were challenged to complete a learning packet with math, reading, and vocabulary activities. There were many students from each grade level that rose to the challenge and were part of our celebration. Thank you to our families for supporting this learning opportunity for your child. Check out some photos from the celebration!

Conference Forms:
Conference forms should have been sent home with your child today. Please review the contents of the letter sent home and review the two options: (1) teacher requested conference and (2) parent requested conference time. These forms are due back to your child's teacher by February 9th. Our conference night at Middlesex will be March 1st from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Schoology:
If you have not already done so, we strongly encourage you to log into your Schoology parent account using the credentials emailed to you earlier this month. As a parent, you are able to view your child's activity within the Schoology platform. Your parent account allows you to oversee all of your CV students through a singular login and allows you to set up notifications that meet your personal needs. Schoology also has a free app, which allows you to access your account through a smartphone.

If you are having issues logging into your parent account, or if you did not receive the email with credentials, please contact your child's main office for assistance.
You may also access a list of Schoology Frequently Asked Questions by clicking here.
