(1/5/18) - Two-hour delay, modified kdg
Published on Jan 4, 2018 19:21

(Two-hour delay on 1/5/18) - Due to the current forecast for extremely low temperatures combined with wind chill values on Friday, January 5, all Cumberland Valley School District schools will operate on a two-hour delay with modified kindergarten. Designated employees should report as directed by your supervisor. All other employees should follow procedures previously set forth by the District.

While we strive to ensure our busses and buildings are fully operable at all times, extreme temperatures occasionally lead to mechanical failures that are out of our control. With this in mind, we strongly encourage families to review their emergency plans so that - in the event of an unexpected bus delay - children recognize under what circumstances and conditions you would expect them to return home or to the home of a trusted neighbor.

Additionally, it is especially important to dress and prepare appropriately for the weather conditions:

• Wear layers that will keep you warm when outdoors, but once indoors can be removed so as to not overheat.
• Socks should be light to medium weight.
• Shoes and coats should be seasonally appropriate and weather/water resistant.
• Mittens provide better insulation than gloves
• Thermal pants and shirts may help to protect your body from losing too much heat.
• Scarves and hats should be worn to cover the face and head.
• The outer layer should be wind resistant or tightly woven.
• To prepare for the day, consider a warm breakfast.

If you know of any students who may be in need of a winter coat, hat, or gloves, please do not hesitate to contact your school's principal or guidance counselor. Your call will remain anonymous and we are happy to share winter items from CV's Angel Closet.
