Message from the District Food Service Department...Cafeteria Purchase Guidelines:
There have been some questions regarding our cafeteria lunch procedures and the items that come with a student’s meal each day. There are 4 main lunch options offered each day in the cafeteria, of which, the students can select which choice they want. Each morning your child’s teacher takes a quick count of which meal the students will be purchasing at lunch so the cafeteria can get a count for their daily preparation. When the students come to the cafeteria, they then tell the cafeteria staff which option they chose and are served this item by the staff.

All meals have the following components offered for the student: protein, grain, milk, fruits and vegetables. The student must have at least 3 of the components to qualify as a complete meal, and by regulation, one of the components must be a fruit or vegetable. If a student does not have a fruit or vegetable on their tray, they will be asked by the cashier to go back and get one or we must charge ala carte prices for the other items and not the discounted meal price. We offer many types of fruits and vegetables, including both hot vegetables, fresh salads or vegetable trays, fresh fruit, canned fruit and 100% fruit juice. Out of these selections, the student can choose up to 2 fruits and 2 vegetables each day, but they must have a minimum of 1 out of the selections. If a student likes a particular item they may choose 2 of that item, such as 2 applesauce cups, but then they are not allowed a different fruit in addition to the applesauce. The only exception to this is fruit juice.  A student can only take 1 juice each day. If a student takes 2 juices they will be charged the ala carte price of $1.00 for the extra fruit, even if they don’t have another fruit on their tray. They can still take a second fruit, it just can’t be a juice.

Students are permitted to purchase extra items such as milk, water bottles, or an additional fruit if they have cash or money on their account. No extra purchases will be allowed to be charged to the students account if they have a negative balance, or if it will cause them to go into the negative. Students are allowed to charge a meal if they don’t have money on their account. Parents will be notified and are expected to pay any meal charges that the student accrues on their account. If you do not want your child to be able to purchase any extra items or ala carte items please contact the food service office at 717-697-8261 and we can restrict your child’s ability to purchase these extra items.  If you have any questions about these procedures please contact the kitchen manager, Ketha Lehman, or the food service office at any time.

STILL IN NEED OF VOLUNTEERS- PTO Holiday Shoppe and Book Fair- Thursday, December 7th 6-8PM
Join us for a night of shopping and fun! A great selection of gifts under $10. Children shop for their families in the gymnasium! Parents can shop at our Scholastic Book fair and relax in our lounge area, in the cafeteria. Light refreshments will be provided. If you or someone you know would like to volunteer please go to this link https://ttsu.me/nzym37. Please consider signing up to volunteer; without volunteers it is hard to run these fun programs at Middlesex. Thank you to those families that continue to volunteer and support our activities!
