Dear Sporting Hill Families,

We are honored to take this opportunity to share that the School Board has approved District administration's recommendation to name Mrs. Dayl Lynn Shaddock as the principal of Sporting Hill Elementary School. She previously served in our district as Instructional Specialist at Sporting Hill and 3rd Grade Teacher at Silver Spring Elementary. Mrs. Shaddock replaces Mr. Chad Runkle, who will begin his transition to Winding Creek Elementary.

Letter from Mrs. Shaddock to Sporting Hill families:

Dear Students, Families, and Community Members of Sporting Hill Elementary School,

It is with great honor and humility that I have accepted the position of Principal at Sporting Hill Elementary School. As an Instructional Specialist at Sporting Hill for the past six years, I have learned a great deal about our 720 (and counting) students. For example, I know our Kindergartners were full of wonder as we ventured around Hershey Zoo. I saw the excitement on every student’s face on Moving-Up Day as they anticipated who may be their teacher next year. I felt the trepidation and the excitement of our fifth graders as they celebrated their time at Sporting Hill in a ceremony that honored every single student. I know and care about your child/children. As the new Principal of Sporting Hill, I would like you to get to know me.

I love the beach. I was born and raised in Camarillo, CA where I spent my summers basking in the sun and catching waves. Actually, it was while living in CA at the young age of 13 that I realized I wanted to be a teacher. I pursued my dream and graduated from California State University Bakersfield. For the past 22 years I have taught elementary school in California, Texas, and Pennsylvania. Supporting and believing in the public educational system, I made a conscious decision to go back to school for my Principal Certification.

I have been married for 25 years and have two wonderful children! My husband, Paul, installs and services MRIs in a zone that covers Maine to Maryland. Our children graduated from CV. Isaiah attends HACC and is pursuing a career in medical imaging. Amanda, is going to IUP this fall to study Speech Pathology. During the summer, they will both be working at SAMs Club. I am very proud of them!

As you may have seen in the yearbook, my superhero name was Positivity Protector. I can assure you that Sporting Hill will continue to provide a positive learning experience for each student. During this year, let’s learn and grow together! By learning and growing together, our students will reap the benefits of being a Sporting Hill Bulldog.

As we enter the month of July, I will be working closely with District Administration and Mr. Runkle to plan a transition that will bring a smooth start to the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year. I look forward to meeting you in the near future.
