Five highly-talented Cumberland Valley High School students have earned the distinct honor of being named a 2017 National Merit Scholarship Finalist.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced that approximately 15,000 finalists were selected from a pool of students in more than 22,000 high schools across the country. The finalists represent less than 1 percent of all U.S. high school seniors, according to NMSC.

Congratulations to the following CV seniors who have been named National Merit Finalists:

  • Rachael Chacko
  • Grace Gallagher
  • Jerrett King
  • Noah Lee
  • Riley Park

Finalists were selected as semifinalists in September of 2016. They will now vie for one of 7,500 Merit Scholarships worth a total of approximately $33 million.

The National Merit Scholarship Program recognizes some of the country’s most academically-talented high school seniors. To become a finalist, NMSC said the students and their high school must submit a detailed scholarship application in which they provide information about the student's academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, and honors and awards received.

National Merit Scholarship winners will be announced nationwide beginning in April.
