(7.29.21) Draft Health & Safety Plan

Dear CVSD Families,

Please find a link below to the District’s 2021-22 Draft Health and Safety Plan. We plan to request that the Board approve the Draft Health and Safety Plan on August 2, 2021. The plan has also been submitted to the Pennsylvania Department of Education as part of the process for applying for American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief grant (ARP ESSER). Families should understand that, due to the rapidly shifting landscape related to COVID-19 guidance and mandates, the Health and Safety Plan is a living document and is subject to change prior to the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year. We will keep families informed of any changes to the plan as they occur. We know that families want assurances from us related to what school will look like this fall, and we will plan to provide more finalized information as we get closer to the beginning of school on August 31, 2021.

We know from the more than 2,000 comments submitted to the ThoughtExchange that there are areas of significant divide within our community related to expected mitigation efforts. The Draft Health and Safety Plan is based on information we had available to us related to COVID-19 spread and mitigation efforts in mid to late July as well as information we gathered from the community as part of the ThoughtExchange.

Please know that we are committed to providing our students with face-to-face instruction five days per week and also committed to keeping them safe and in school for the whole year. We will continue to seek community input and make adjustments to the plan, and will continue to communicate those adjustments to our families as those changes are made. As the situation continues to change, we will also need to adapt to meet our goal for the year - to keep our students safely in school all year long in as normal an environment as we are able to create.

Currently, the District must comply with only one mandate from the Pennsylvania Department of Health, as listed in the plan. Student and staff quarantine for exposure must continue to be part of our mitigation efforts. Students and staff members who are fully vaccinated will not be required to quarantine if they are exposed to COVID-19 in schools. All other students and staff will continue to be required to quarantine if they are exposed to a case in schools or other settings.

We are still unsure if a second mandate, wearing face coverings on public transportation, is an applicable one to our setting. Should we determine that we must comply with that mandate, we will provide that information to our families as well.

We also would like to be responsive to the concerns that some parents have shared with us. We know that the increase in COVID-19 cases across the country may have some families rethinking their mode of instruction requests for the fall. Should you wish to change your child’s mode of instruction (going from face-to-face to CVVA or from CVVA to face-to-face) please contact the CVVA principal, Mr. Gilbert, at dgilbert@cvschools.org by 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2021.

Thank you for your continued support of our schools. We know that, together, we can ensure a safe and productive year for our students.

With sincere appreciation,
David E. Christopher, Ed.D.
