Culture and Climate

(October 4, 2019)

Good afternoon,

In order to provide all members of our school community with updates related to school climate action plans that support Cumberland Valley School District’s core mission of preparing all students to be innovative and productive citizens in an interconnected world, the district will be sending out regular updates to parents and posting information on the district website.

Our first update, which includes specific timelines, programs, and resources the district will be using, is attached. We appreciate your support as we continue to work to make Cumberland Valley the best district for all of our students.

Dear CV Community:

As many of you are aware, there have been allegations of harassing student behavior circulated in media reports that have called our school climate and culture into question, especially at our high school.  I want to assure you that we are taking these allegations seriously and that we have many plans in place to measure and continuously improve the climate of our schools.

Our district has excellent public schools that are filled with some of the best kids anywhere, but even a single incident of inappropriate behavior can negatively impact the school’s culture and affect our students’ experience. With that in mind, we are continuing and expanding our student training on how to support other students who are targets of harassment and how to properly report those incidents to our administrators.

For this to be really effective we need your help. Please talk to your kids about reporting harassment to a teacher or administrator and remind them to always be kind and to support others. Together, we have the ability to ensure that our schools are free from harassing behaviors and that all of our students feel safe and welcome.

My wife and I moved to CV with our kids because of the quality of the schools and the positive school and community environment here.  I am proud to be an Eagle and look forward to working with all of you to continue to make CV a place that is truly preparing all of our students for success in an interconnected world.

We will continue to provide updates about what the district is doing to continuously make our schools better. We thank you in advance for your support.
