(March 27, 2019) - Following an in-depth screening process and a series of rigorous interviews with numerous highly-qualified candidates, Cumberland Valley’s Board of School Directors is expected to take action at its April 8 meeting to appoint Mr. Gregory Milbrand to the position of Assistant Superintendent.

Mr. Milbrand currently serves as the Assistant Executive Director for the Capital Area Intermediate Unit. He will replace Dr. Patty Hillery, who retired in January following 15 years of service to the District.

“It is with great excitement and gratitude that I begin this new chapter in my career with the Cumberland Valley School District. I am truly grateful and honored to have the opportunity to serve in this premier school district,” said Mr. Milbrand. “It is my pledge to work tirelessly to lead the ongoing journey toward excellence and to forge strong relationships with the students, staff, families, Board members, and the entire Cumberland Valley community.”

Mr. Milbrand brings more than 20 years of educational experience to CV. He served as an elementary and middle school classroom teacher, a secondary assistant principal, and a middle school principal. In 2013, he joined the staff at East Pennsboro Area School District as Supervisor of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment and a year later was appointed Assistant Superintendent of Schools. He spent one year as Acting Superintendent of Schools with East Pennsboro before joining the CAIU.

He says his teaching experience helped him to gain valuable, first-hand knowledge of effective instructional strategies while his principalship provided him with the opportunity to “balance instructional leadership and building management for the purpose of student success.” Mr. Milbrand added, “I maximized my time with East Pennsboro Area School District to provide global leadership and to positively impact the students, teachers, administrators, parents, and the entire East Pennsboro community. During my tenure, the District was truly ahead of the curve in the implementation of innovative, research-based programs and instructional strategies.”

Mr. Milbrand is currently pursuing his Doctorate of Educational Leadership and Administration through Immaculata University. He earned his Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility, K-12 Principal Certification, and Master of Education in School Administration from Shippensburg University.

Upon his appointment, Mr. Milbrand will oversee the District’s eight elementary schools and will work closely with Assistant Superintendent Steve Kirkpatrick to provide guidance and oversight at the two middle school buildings.

Pending board approval, it is anticipated that Mr. Milbrand will begin to transition to Cumberland Valley this spring.
