Spring Semester 2013
- HONOR UNIT WITH DISTINCTION, January 14th. The Cumberland Valley High School Junior ROTC program is very pleased to announce that the unit has earned the qualification of Honor Unit with Distinction, the highest honor awarded to JROTC programs. This achievement required the cadet battalion to score at least 96% on a rigorous 5-hour inspection conducted on January 14th by a team from the U.S Army's 2nd ROTC Brigade from Fort Dix, NJ. On its first ever Formal Inspection, the CV JROTC program scored 591 of a possible 600 points (98.5%). The battalion's cadets worked very hard throughout the semester to prepare for this inspection, which included: a staff briefing; a curriculum knowledge session; a detailed inspection of cadet staff areas and functions; platoon drill; a color guard presentation; and an in-ranks inspection of uniforms and cadet knowledge. This inspection occurs only once every three years and is the most challenging part of the evaluation process.By scoring at least 96% on the end-of-year Unit Report, the cadets will confirm their Honor Unit with Distinction qualification. This report highlights all of the cadets' extracurricular activities, including: community service, school support, team competitions, color guard presentations, parades, formal social events, summer camp, and more. At that point, the Senior Army Instructor will be authorized to nominate well-qualified cadets to any of the Military Service Academies and the cadets will proudly wear a yellow star insignia on their uniforms to recognize this accomplishment.
Congratulations to all "Screaming Eagles" Cadets!!
