 8th Grade Special Interest Activities

 

Welcome back to Eagle View!
September 2010 7th & 8th Grade Back-to-School Night: The school will send information home concerning times and the schedule. This is a perfect opportunity to stop by the special interest room to meet with me and choose a date and time for your child's GIEP conference.
last week of each month News Bowl: Interested 8th grade special interest students will be able to participate in this competition if they so wish. During the last week of September, we will be doing a trial-run to get a feel for the competition. During October through April, we will spend the first weeks of each month watching, reading, and discussing the news. During the final week of each month, students will take an online test.
October/November

GIEP Parent Conferences: Your child's Gifted Individualized Education Plan (GIEP) will be updated and reviewed by you at some point during this time.

Date TBA Eagle View Geographic Bee: This competition is for all interested Eagle View students. This first level of competition is a written test. A final oral competition will be held in December. The top student will take a written test in January to compete for a spot at the PA State Geographic Bee.

Eagle View Spelling Bee: This competition is open to all interested Eagle View students. This first level of competition is a written test. A final oral competition will be held in December with the top students advancing to the regional level.

Fall KMO: This competition is for those special interest 6th, 7th, and 8th graders who qualify.

8th Grade Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl: This competition is for all 8th grade special interest students.

Date TBA Rubberband Contest for Young Inventors: This competition is for any interested student in grades 5-8. Students are encouraged to demonstrate their creativity and ingenuity by developing a new idea that utilizes the rubberband. Entries must include the following: a written description of the invention, not to exceed 1,000 words; a sketch of the invention, including a diagram of how it works; and any of the following visual aids: photographs, a VHS, a CD, a DVD, or a flash drive that explain the invention and its intended use. BubbleWrap Brand Competition for Young Inventors: This competition is for any interested student in grades 5-8. The student's original invention must incorporate the use of BubbleWrap brand cushioning. To compete, the project must include a written description of 1,000 words; a design or drawing of the invention; photographs of the invention being used by the inventor; category and topic in which the invention is being submitted; and optional visuals such as a VHS, CD, or DVD which show the invention and how it is used.
