All About Me

I am Mrs. Patty Schons,

Learning Support Teacher.  I work with students who are identified with learning disabilities in grades 1 & 3.  I am excited to be back at Sporting Hill for my fifth year.

My husband, Brian, is an Officer in the Navy and his career spans 18 years.  He is currently serving a 2 and a hallf year tour of duty onboard a ship stationed in Virginia.  In light of the frequent moves or geographic separations we have had to endure during the last 15 years of marriage, I feel that I have acquired many unique experiences.  I started my teaching career in Georgia in 2000, then taught for two years in Mississippi.  Shortly after our transfer here to Pennsylvania in 2003 I had the opportunity to be a long -term substitute in several of the District's schools in the areas of Emotional Support, Life Skills, and Learning Support before accepting my current position at Sporting Hill in 2005.

I earned my Master's Degree in Special Education from Texas A & M University, Corpus Christi in 1998.  I doubled majored in both Elementary and  Special Education for my Bachelor's Degree, which I earned from Salve Regina University in 1991.

My job allows me the opportunity to work together with many teachers so that our students are getting the support they need to achieve their goals.  My job also includes teaching the students the strategies needed for them to be successful in their education.  My goal is that our students will have success in their academics within the least restrictive environment possible and will use these strategies or tools in all areas of their daily lives.
