Computer ~ SPRING 2010

First Grade Follies

First graders have been finishing up their shapes project in PowerPoint.  We will be making a special Swimming Acrostic Poems in Microsoft Word next. To wrap up the year we will be doing some review of basic concepts.

Second Grade

Second grade has been working in Microsoft Word on a unit about rocks and minerals.  We have learned about how the three kinds of rocks are formed, and we have copied and pasted pictures from the Internet,  To go along with this we talk about citing our sources and how to follow copyright laws.

  3rd Grade Topics

The third grade students have begun a unit on poetry using Microsoft Word.  We have practiced using some poetry templates on the Internet, and have made our own acrostic poems.  We will be doing a unit on Email next, where the students can send an email to a staff member at Sporting Hill and learn about email etiquette.

~4th Grade~

Our fourth grade students have completed a Figurative Language PowerPoint project where they learned to add custom animation and sounds to their slide shows.  Next we will be working with Microsoft Excel and create a database.  The year will wrap up with a review and assessment of computer processes they have learned this year.

5th Grade News

Fifth grade students have been learning the ins and outs of the new Microsoft 2007 version of PowerPoint.  They have been working on a long project on Figurative Language.  They have been narrating their slides and are now learning to download sound files from the Internet and use them with the custom animation in their slides.  We have taken several breaks in this project, like with the web hunt on Colonial Days that the students are doing now to go along with their Colonial Days Week Long celebration.  The year will wrap up with some basic concepts and assessment.
