4th and 5th Grade Learning Support

As in the past, 4th and 5th graders are included in the balanced literacy program in the regular classroom this year. They  will receive word work, guided reading, and writing instruction in the regular classroom. Students, if needing direct instruction in a small group, will receive direct instruction in the learning support classroom during part of their language arts block.  Students will be receiving a "double dose" of reading instruction!

In math, we will work together in our  math program, Math Expressions. Mrs. Loeffler is co-teaching in fifth grade with Mrs. Meckley and with Miss Guntz in fourth grade. In both fourth and fifth grades, we begin the year working on multiplication and division fluency. Time to start practicing facts! Together we will find a way for students to make progress in this area. Fluency in math impacts all areas in math.  Please visit my links page to play some math games to work on basic facts and other skills.

Mrs. Black, our aide, and I will be in Social Studies and Science classrooms to assist students with note-taking, studying, test-taking, and completing assignments. Students can receive help with studying and projects during Quiet Study.  They need to notify us in advance and we will help them to complete their assignments. Once tests begin, there will be online quizzes to help students prepare for the test. They can do this at home or during Quiet Study/before school/during dismissal.
