Frequently Asked Questions about Classroom Theory

How often is classroom theory offered?

The theory class is available to CV students in the Fall and Spring semesters as well as during Summer School. School year classes are held every other day for half a year. Summer school classes are 2 hours a day for 15 consecutive days. The dates are available when the school district posts the summer school schedule. Non-public school students may attend Summer School.

How old does my student need to be to take classroom theory?

Students in grades 9-12 are permitted to take classroom theory. It is beneficial to take the class closer to the time the student will be taking the permit exam and begins his/her practice driving.

Will completing only the Classroom Theory portion earn my student an insurance deduction?

No. The certificate for an insurance deduction requires 30 hours of classroom theory and 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction. Call your insurance agent for company deduction requirements. Once your student has a valid learner’s permit or driver’s license he/she may register for behind the wheel lessons. See the “behind the wheel” tab on the menu for more information.

Is there an attendance requirement for classroom theory?

Yes. The state requires that a student have 30 hours of classroom theory. Students may not miss more than 2 class periods without completing make up work. Students are responsible for contacting the instructor to obtain make up work. Excessive absences may require that the student drop the class. Students will be informed of this policy at the start of the class.
