Assessment Anchors and Eligible Content

Confused by the terms standards, anchors and eligible content?  Hopefully this will help clarify these three terms before you link to any of the documents below.

 

Mathematics Standards describe what a student should know or be able to do by the end of four grade levels (3rd, 5th, 8th, 11th).  There are many standards and they are broadly written.  The mathematics standards are grouped into eleven (11) categories.  Nine (9) categories deal with content and two (2) categories deal with mathematical processes.

 

Since the math portion of the PSSA is administered during only three sessions, it would be impossible to assess all the standards.  Assessment Anchors focus on and clarify which standards are assessed on the PSSA.  These assessment anchors help educators better prepare students for the PSSA.  The assessment anchor is written in the band that runs across the top of the page on the document below.

 

The Eligible Content identifies exactly how each assessment anchor will be assessed on the PSSA.  Eligible content is in the box on the right hand sided of the page on the document below.
