Bullying does NOT have to happen in our school!
What is bully behavior?
Bully behavior is repeated behavior that is done with the purpose to make someone feel powerless. Bully behavior can be physical - one or more students hurting another with fists and feet. More often, bullying is done with words and includes persistent threatening, teasing, name-calling, or talking about another person.
It's not your fault!
Bully behavior doesn't usually happen because of something you did. Bully behavior is the result of how someone else feels. Some kids use bully behavior as a way of feeling popular, showing off, or making themselves look cool. Often, kids who use bully behavior have been bullied by someone else. If someone is bullying you, don't think it is your fault.
What can you do?
| Decide if it's bully behavior. Bully behavior happens repeatedly in order to have power over you. If it is teasing, use your peer relations steps first. | |
| Walk or run away. It's harder to bully someone who won't stay still. Leave immediately and go tell an adult. | |
| Stay calm. Bullies seem to target kids who respond to their actions. Try hard not to show any emotion. It's no fun to bully someone who doesn't seem to care. Stand tall and project confidence. | |
| Don't fight back. Usually, those who use bully behavior are bigger and stronger than you are. If you fight back, you could get hurt or even get blamed for starting the fight. Go to an adult immediately! | |
| Write it down. Keep track of what happens with names, dates, and places. When you tell an adult, you'll have facts to share. | |
| Tell an adult. It's pretty tough to stop bully bahavior by yourself, even with help from a friend. So tell an adult. That is not a tattle, but a "tell." You should always "tell" when someone is scared, in danger, or is being hurt. | |
| Take a stand against bullying. If you see bully behavior happening to someone else, tell about it!! Your school can't help if they don't know what is happening.
|
If you are a victim, tell someone. If you know someone who is, don't wait...do your job as a bystander! The sooner you tell the sooner the bullying can stop!
