(May 10, 2019) – At its meeting later this month, the Cumberland Valley School District’s Board of School Directors is expected to take action on an administrative recommendation to appoint Mr. Todd Franze as the new principal of Hampden Elementary School. Mr. Franze will replace Mrs. Connie Henry, who has announced her retirement effective in July.

Mr. Franze currently serves as Assistant Principal of Douglas MacArthur Elementary School in Alexandria, VA.

“I am excited to begin this new opportunity in a community where my family can build a foundation and my passion for school leadership can thrive,” said Mr. Franze. He added, “My core beliefs as a principal remain grounded in my experiences as a teacher, teacher’s assistant, substitute teacher, and student. I believe that the most effective leaders lead from among, not above, and by not being the best but by making others better.”

Mr. Franze brings to CV many years, and a variety, of educational experiences. In addition to his experience as an assistant principal, he has served as a first-grade classroom teacher, a fifth-grade Language Arts and Social Studies teacher, a sixth-grade Science teacher, a team lead, and a varsity basketball coach. Additionally, he served as summer school principal at Woodbridge Middle School in Virginia. He has training in co-teaching and inclusive practices, crisis intervention and prevention, safe schools/healthy students, and much more.

“It is an absolute honor to welcome Mr. Franze into our school-community. In a crowd of qualified candidates, he quickly rose to the top and we are confident in his abilities and in the skillset that he will bring to Cumberland Valley,” said Assistant Superintendent Greg Milbrand. “However, I would be remiss if I did not take an opportunity to say thank you to Mrs. Henry for her 40 years of dedication and service to Cumberland Valley. She is a consummate leader and advocate for children. Without a doubt, she will be missed.”

Pending board approval, it is anticipated that Mr. Franze will begin his transition to Cumberland Valley over the summer.
