5TH GRADE STRING LESSONS TO BEGIN NEXT WEEK
It's time to begin playing strings together at Hampden!  String lessons for 5th grade students will commence next week.  If your student's instrument needs any new tapes or tuning, he/she can drop it off in the Instrument Room first thing in the morning on Tuesday, September 18.  For more information and to view the 5th grade strings lesson schedule, please click here.

NOTE FROM OUR SCHOOL NURSE, MRS. DALY
Back to school is an exciting time of year, but it can be stressful!  Along with getting to know new teachers and making new friends, there are new routines, new expectations, and usually some surprises. In what can feel like a blur of activity, it’s helpful to remember the basics for keeping your child (and yourself!) healthy, happy and ready for the school year.
1. Eat the rainbow—lots of colorful, minimally processed foods. Breakfast has been shown to help with memory and attention in school children.
2. Get to bed on time. The CDC recommends that elementary age children should aim for 9-12 hours sleep each night.
3. Wash hands to prevent illness.
4. Take time to relax and have fun with your child. Those snuggly moments together help your child feel happy and secure during this hectic time of year.
Please touch base with me in the health office (717) 737-4513 Option 3 if you have any questions or concerns during the year, or email me at  [email protected].  Best wishes for a great fall!

REMINDER FOR PARENTS OF 5TH GRADERS INTERESTED IN BAND
Elementary Instrumental Rental Night takes place on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at 6:00 PM at the High School Performing Arts Center.  Students from Hampden who are interested in band will be able to meet with our Secondary Band Directors at "playstations."  Students will be able to try out their 1st and 2nd choice of instruments based upon the paperwork completed.  Once the student has made their final choice, parents will have the opportunity to visit the on-site vendors to rent that specific instrument.  For students unable to attend, separate arrangements will need to be made at a later date, which means getting their instrument later than their peers.  Please do your best to attend this event.
6:00 P.M.:  Elementary Orchestra Meeting followed by Vendor Visits
6:00 P.M.:  Green Ridge, Hampden, Middlesex, Sporting Hill and Winding Creek BAND students visit their playstations.
7:00 P.M.:  Elementary Band Meeting followed by Vendor Visit
If you have any questions, please contact Tracee Zygmunt, Music Department Chairman at [email protected].
