Social media posting

Below is communication that has been shared with Cumberland Valley High School staff and we want to share with the greater school community as well.

Dear CV High School Families,

Safety of our students and staff is of paramount priority. To that end, I am writing to make you aware that there was an incident late last evening regarding a posting on social media. The post was menacing in nature but never mentions the high school directly or any specific individual. However, administration and local police immediately followed up during the overnight hours and determined that there was no cause for concern and no credible threat to our students or to our buildings today.

With that being said, Silver Spring Police Department was visible throughout the day at CV High School. This is not uncommon as we welcome officers into our buildings all year.

Unfortunately, as the day went on, inaccurate rumors in various iterations began to surface. Therefore, I want to make sure you have accurate information. Rumors of imminent threat to the building have been investigated and are not true – there are no immediate threats to our students, staff, and buildings.

We all play a vital role in any school-wide safety effort; it is the duty and responsibility of students, staff, and families to report any potential threats to the proper individuals. We appreciate the concern and help of the families who have taken this responsibility seriously by reporting their concerns to the appropriate authorities. Additionally, we truly appreciate our local officials, staff members, and parents who mobilize immediately upon notification of such postings.

Rest assured, safety is our first priority, today and always.

Sincerely,

Dr. Frederick S. Withum III
Superintendent
