Viewing of the solar eclipse
Published on Aug 7, 2017 09:21

Dear CV families:

As you may be aware, our community is in the geographic region to view a partial solar eclipse during the school day on Monday, August 21.

Upon consultation with our district physician, we have made the decision to keep children indoors for afternoon recess as the partial eclipse is to be viewable in our region between approximately 1 and 4 p.m. Additionally, we will educate students on proper safety protocols when walking to/from classes and when boarding the buses to depart school.

While we recognize that the opportunity to view an eclipse is a rare occurrence, our number one priority is the health, safety, and well being of our students and staff. There are possible hazards associated with exposure to potentially harmful rays during the partial eclipse. NASA recommends only viewing the partial eclipse with special glasses.

Parents and guardians are also encouraged to talk with your children about viewing safety during a partial eclipse. NASA provides resources on its website, including an information page on safety that is available by clicking here.

Thank you.
