Message from the 12th Grade Assistant Principal:

Thank you for visiting the webpage for the Class of 2010!  We hope this webpage proves to be a useful and effective tool for communicating issues regarding our seniors with students, parents, and the community.  I would encourage you to bookmark the page and refer to it often, as we intend to update the content on a regular basis.

Our students are approaching commencement, and we are very excited about helping them plan for this transition from the world of Cumberland Valley High School to college, military service, and employment.  Please contact your student’s guidance counselor with any questions pertaining to this transition, including college applications, financial aid information, etc.  Our guidance office contains information on countless scholarship opportunities.  Encourage your student to visit the filing cabinets to search for scholarship opportunities that can ease the financial burden of a college education.

Our E-schoolbook program for parents allows parents the opportunity to have detailed pictures of their students’ grades.  Parents can now examine their students’ grades and attendance from a web-based program.  To take advantage of this technology, visit the main office in the high school and provide photo identification.  Upon doing so, you will be provided a password and log-in which will grant you access.  We believe this effort to further include parents in the conversation about student performance will produce valuable results.  Of course this effort is coupled with access to many teachers’ websites and email communication with teachers.  Taken in whole, we have a comprehensive system to keep parents informed of their students’ performances at C.V.

You may have also heard some new information regarding attendance.  As a district we are increasing our scrutiny of student attendance.  Once a student has a legitimate absence, he or she has three days to submit an excuse note for the absence.  Not submitting the note results in that absence being permanently coded as unexcused/unlawful (depending on the student’s age.)  Please encourage your student to submit excuse notes upon return from any absence.  Attendance is reported on student’s transcripts, and attendance is positively correlated with academic performance.  Limiting student absence is important in developing life-long habits that can benefit students beyond the walls of C.V.

I wish you well as the school year comes to a close.  Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact me via email at morner@cvschools.org or by phone at (717)506-3453.  I look forward to seeing you at your student’s graduation ceremony.

Sincerely,

Michele Orner
