Longtime Cumberland Valley Coach Jackie Orner has announced her intention to resign from her position at Cumberland Valley High School’s head girls’ volleyball coach.

The decision is bittersweet, but the timing is right, she said.

“I have loved coaching at Cumberland Valley and feel honored and blessed to have worked with such amazing administrators, coaching staff, parents … and my athletes. I am beyond proud of the awesome things they have done on the courts, but more importantly in the classroom and their communities,” said Coach Orner. “I have been a part of CV athletics as a parent and coach, and I know this is a special place. I feel honored to have been able to represent it!”

Orner has been a coach at CV for nearly three decades, starting in the early 90s. She has served as assistant mens’ volleyball coach, head gymnastics coach, and JV and later head girls’ volleyball coach. She won PA Coach of the Year honors during her tenure as head gymnastics coach, and coached numerous gymnasts to district and state-level competitions and titles. Girls’ Volleyball teams won numerous Mid-Penn and District titles, and state playoff honors under her leadership.

In the past 10 years as head girls’ volleyball coach, her teams have amassed an impressive regular season record of 150-26.

“Jackie has been a fixture in the Athletic Department for many years, and we will definitely miss her as a head coach,” said Athletic Director Mike Craig. “While she has high expectations for her team, she has successfully created a culture of respect, positivity, and fun. We sincerely thank Jackie for everything she has done for the district and for our student-athletes.”

In the coming weeks, CV will begin the search for a new coach.
