Science Fair Planning

All Cumberland Valley Students are invited to participate in our local science fair.

Local champions may advance to the regional CASEF competition in order to qualify for the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF).

When selecting a topic, keep the acronym SCIENCE in mind; this screening tool was developed by Hannah Lombardo (class of 2016) in order to help you determine whether an idea is actionable:
SAFETY: Will teacher supervision be needed to complete parts of the experiment?
COST: Do you plan on paying for the necessary materials, or can the school supply materials?
INSTRUMENTS: Is the equipment available in the school or will you borrow it from somewhere else?
ENVIRONMENT: Can the experiment be completed at home or must it be performed in a school laboratory, or elsewhere?
NEW: Does your experiment model an existing experiment? Has your question already been answered?
CLEAN-UP: Will teacher assistance be needed to properly clean up after the experiment?
ENTHUSIASM: Are you excited when you think about your topic?
All correspondence related to the science fair will occur through a Schoology Course, or via direct work with their teacher sponsor.
