Welcome to the Cumberland Valley Middle School Reading Department! 

Reading 6:   Every incoming 6th grader is scheduled for Reading 6. Reading 6 is designed to accelerate the rate of growth in decoding, reading comprehension and fluency. The class provides explicit instruction based on students' reading data. Reading 6 is designed to accelerate the rate of growth in decoding, reading comprehension and fluency. The course also includes academic reading and note taking skills; information, media and technology research skills; critical thinking skills such as: vocabulary in context, summary writing, and annotation.

Reading 7 and 8: 
Teachers recommend students for Reading 7 and 9 based on historical reading performance (previous years) as well as current demonstrated reading skill performance levels using various assessment tools. Reading 7 and 8 is designed to accelerate the rate of growth in decoding, reading comprehension and fluency. The class provides explicit instruction based on students' reading data. The course also includes academic reading and note taking skills; information, media and technology research skills; critical thinking skills such as: vocabulary in context, summary writing, and annotation.
