Spring Sports - March 8th
Effective June 1, 2007, the Cumberland Valley School District will only accept a yearly comprehensive physical; the initial pre-participation physical evaluation must be performed by a licensed physician of medicine, osteopathic medicine or nurse practitioner. The comprehensive physical evaluation will allow student athletes to participate in interscholastic athletics for twelve (12) months. A parent re-certification is required for each subsequent sports season and a medical re-certification is required if the student athlete: (1) suffers an illness or injury which renders the student unable to participate in 25% or more of the regular season contests in the immediately preceding sports season; (2) suffers an illness or injury which resulted in absence from school for ten (10) or more days and/or which requires surgery or deemed necessary by the athletic trainer; and/or (3) a yes box is checked on the parental re-certification form.
ATTENTION PARENTS - INFORMATION REGARDING 2009-2010 PHYSICALS
The PIAA has changed the policy on sports participation physicals for the 2009-2010 school year. A physical CAN NOT be performed before June 1, 2009, in order to be valid for athletic participation during the 2009-2010 school year.
What are the implications for you?
If your child's physical this year was performed after June 1, 2009, you may continue to reschedule physicals each year after June 1 without any insurance reimbursement conflicts.
If your child's physical was performed this year BEFORE June 1, 2009, YOU SHOULD NOT RESCHEDULE A PHYSICAL FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR ON OR BEFORE THE DATE OF THAT PHYSICAL!! If you do, the physical will NOT be valid for the 2009-2010 school year. You will then have to schedule another physical after June 1, 2009 for your child to be eligible to participate in athletics during the 2009-2010 school year. By waiting until after June 1, 2009, you may avoid paying out of pocket fees if your health care insurance only reimburses you for one physical per year.
